Indulging the Senses

Hey everyone! So I just decided that I want to write different posts inspired by each of the five senses. I am in a musical sort of mood today, which is why my focus will be on the sense of hearing! Below, I have shared with you eight songs that I adore, most of which have been favorites of mine for years now. They've been listened to a thousand times, yet they still have some sort of magical quality that stirs up something within me, whether this emotion makes me want to cry, dream, or dance. The songs like "Amber," "Chan Chan," "Pas de Deux," and "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" are especially meaningful, because they have the ability to bring me back to old places that I could never truly be in again. A different age, different friends, and different emotions that would be impossible to return to. It always astonishes me how the first note of a song can instantly cultivate memories that had been long forgotten until that moment. They come back so clear. When "Amber" plays, I can feel the exact temperature of the balmy Floridian air on that night, years ago, the cool sand underneath my feet, and the way I was smiling inside from pure contentment with life. I love that. Because of music, because of hearing, we have the ability to travel through time, back to the past.

So take a listen to these songs if you'd like. They are definitely an eclectic mix of genres! As a sort of experiment, let me know if you enjoy listening to them. If most of you don't, then it may show that I simply like these songs for the good memories associated with them. If you do, then perhaps I just know good music? :)

**I've heard that the music set isn't loading properly for some people. I have no idea how to fix it. If it doesn't work for you, find my playlist "The Right Sounds" here and take a listen! Thanks!**

Questions for you:
What are your favorite songs of all time? Which bring back memories for you? I love talking about this sort of thing; can't want to hear from you all! I hope you enjoy my musical choices!

xoxo, Caylee

  4. Thank you Julia! I'm sorry the music wasn't playing for you. I can't figure out what's wrong with it!

To valncami: It's awesome that we have the same taste in music, that's pretty rare! And I agree, RATATAT is the BEST. :)
I haven't listened much to The Islands or Jacks Mannequin... I'll definitely have to check them out. Thank you for the recommendation and the compliment!

  6. Caylee, what a beautiful post. Music is so very dear to me as well - it is my passion in life! I love the Beirut song. One of my all time favorite artists that brings back the best memories is Sade. Lover's Rock and No Ordinary Love :) xoxo

  7. Jacob and Caylee, I figured it - apparently, I'm in the wrong country!.. It says it doesn't work for where I am. Oh well, I can't change that in a snap lol

As for my all time favorite songs, I have some that really proved it for me over time and I absolutely love the message in them (they're all very different between each other):
    - I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
    - Gangster's Paradise by Coolio
    - I Belong to You by Lenny Kravitz
    - Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera

I have some more favorites, but they either haven't sticked around long enough, or maybe just a little bit less favorite, lol

  9. Shannon: You're in a band, right? You should post up some of your music sometime, if it's possible. That would be awesome!

Julia: I'll definitely make sure to listen to your favorite songs soon. But I actually think you should move to a different country, just so you can read my blog posts... Just kidding! :D

Chelsea: Thank you, thank you! I just took a look at your blog, and it is seriously awesome.

*P.S. everyone - It seems as though some of you still can't get my playlist to work. For this, I'm sorry. Epic blog fail.

  12. This is awesome. I love the idea of doing this 5 senses writing. How extraordinary that we can tie different human experiences with different senses that we otherwise don't really connect to each other

  13. It's funny how different melodies can stir up a different ways of associating past times. Slow songs are normally songs you remember what you were thinking or how your were feeling at the time where as for me fast songs are more of the songs you associate with good times with friends or bad, just basically remember it as background music to an old time. Maybe this is just me.
